At Gold Coast Gastroenterology, we offer Capsule Endoscopy using the latest PillCam™ SB3 technology a swallowable capsule equipped with a miniature camera that captures thousands of high-resolution images as it travels through your small intestine. This advanced diagnostic tool provides a clear, detailed view of areas that are often difficult to reach with traditional endoscopy.
About the Procedure:
Before the procedure, you’ll be given preparation instructions to ensure your bowel is clear for optimal imaging. On the day of your appointment, you’ll arrive fasting and will be fitted with a small data recorder worn around your waist. You’ll then swallow the PillCam™ SB3 capsule with water — it’s about the size of a large vitamin pill and passes naturally through your digestive tract. As it moves through, the capsule transmits images to the recorder, capturing the lining of your small intestine in exceptional detail.
The procedure is completely painless, requires no sedation, and allows you to carry on with most of your normal activities during the recording period. After approximately eight hours, the data recorder is returned to our clinic, and our specialists carefully analyse the images to identify any abnormalities such as unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding, Crohn’s disease, small bowel tumours, inflammation, or other disorders. The capsule is disposable and passes naturally within a day or two.
